Chiqui Cartagena is a Hispanic media and marketing thought leader and author of two business books on the Latino community in the United States. She currently serves at the Executive Director of CUNY TV, a non-commercial, educational television station that is part of the City University of New York, the nation’s largest urban public university, a transformative engine of social mobility that is a critical component of the lifeblood of New York City.
Before that she served as Chief Marketing Officer of The Conference Board, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank that delivers research and insights that enable leaders to navigate the biggest issues impacting businesses and to better serve society. Cartagena also worked as the Senior Vice President of the Political & Advocacy Group for Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) where she was responsible for providing thought leadership and strategic guidance to political candidates and advocacy organizations interested in reaching Hispanics across all political parties and affiliations. At Univision, she also served as the VP of Corporate Marketing at Univision where she led the development and implementation of corporate marketing strategies, she worked on the corporate rebranding of many of Univision's properties and directed the creation of proprietary consumer research tools for various teams. Cartagena also developed the strategy and implementation of Univision’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts both at the Local and Network levels under one overarching brand Univision Contigo with four main pillars: Education, Health, Financial Prosperity and Civic Engagement.
Cartagena’s career includes previous roles as senior director of Columbia House’s Club Música Latina and general manager of Hispanic TV Guide. She began her career in broadcast television with more than 10 years of experience working in the news divisions of Univision and Telemundo in Miami and New York.
In 2012, Cartagena received the ADCOLOR® Legend Award in recognition of her tireless efforts in leading the conversation about the Hispanic community. In 2007, she was named the Hispanic Direct Marketing Professional of the Year by the Direct Marketing Association. Her first book, Latino Boom! Everything You Need to Know to Grow Your Business in the U.S. Hispanic Market, was published by Random House (Ballantine Books) in November 2005. Her second book, Latino Boom II Catch the Biggest Demographic Wave Since the Baby Boom, was published in 2013. In 2022, she edited the book Hispanic Market Power: America’s Business Growth Engine written by Isaac Mizrahi and published by Routledge in 2023.
