Bio

Osvaldo “Ozzie” Martínez is Executive Vice President of Multiplatform News, Original Programming & Standards for the Telemundo Station Group, part of NBCUniversal Local. As a bilingual and bicultural newsroom executive who’s worked in English and Spanish-language newsrooms in the country’s top markets, Martinez helps to drive innovation in storytelling to help inform, empower and entertain bilingual audiences.

At NBCUniversal, Martínez oversees 31 Telemundo owned stations’ multiplatform news operations which include linear and streaming channels, digital and mobile platforms. He works closely with the stations' newsroom leaders to enhance operations, collaboration, strategy and talent development.  Martínez also leads the Telemundo Station Group’s news bureaus in Miami, Washington, D.C., and Mexico, which provide daily news and information to all Telemundo stations across the country. As the head of Standards for the Telemundo Station Group, Martínez ensures that all local newsrooms are operating with the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

Since joining the Telemundo Station Group in 2013, he has been promoted multiple times, from VP of News & Standards in 2013 to his current EVP role and has overseen considerable innovation in storytelling and new platform launches, resulting in audience and revenue growth. In 2022, he played a key leadership role in the launch of NBC and Telemundo-owned stations' 15 news streaming channels, which are available across top OTT and streaming platforms.

In 2017, Martinez founded “Telemundo Local Academy” after noticing a need to create a professional pipeline for bilingual and Spanish-language local journalists. The hands-on training program for undergraduate journalism students who want to serve bilingual audiences through careers in local broadcasting launched at University of Florida and has since expanded to colleges/universities in California, Texas and Puerto Rico.

Martínez also led the 2014 launch of “Telemundo Responde,” a consumer investigative unit that assists consumers who have been wronged, across 22 markets. Due to its success, the initiative expanded to 11 NBC owned stations. Together, the NBC and Telemundo owned stations’ consumer units have recovered more than $60 million (and counting) for consumers in the communities served.

Before joining the Telemundo Station Group, Martínez held various newsroom roles with increasing responsibility at NBC 4 New York / WNBC from 2008 to 2014, including Assistant News Director. Prior to NBC 4, he was Executive Producer for CBS 4 South Florida / WFOR and Fox 7 / WSVN in Miami. Martínez began his media career at WSVN in Miami, Florida, and became one of the youngest executive producers in the country responsible for managing the station’s then four-hour morning newscast.

Martínez is an eight-time Emmy® Award-winning journalist. He also holds six Murrow Awards and, in 2012, was honored by El Diario La Prensa with an “EL Award.”  In 2019, he was named to Broadcasting + Cable/Multichannel News’ 40 under 40 list for his work at Telemundo Station Group.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in broadcast journalism and English from the University of Miami. He resides in Miami, FL.
