Bio

Cristina Navarrete is the weekend anchor for Telemundo 47 News (Noticiero 47 Telemundo), appearing Saturdays and Sundays at 6 PM and 11 PM.  She is also a general assignment reporter covering breaking news, weather reports, sports, entertainment and the most important topics to viewers in the New York Tri-State area. 

In 2021, Navarrete’s commitment to broadcast excellence was recognized by the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences, which awarded her with an Emmy® as the Tri-State’s top News Reporter.  She was also awarded a second Emmy® for her COVID-19 reporting on Telemundo 47’s 2020 “Coronavirus Special”.

Fully bi-lingual in English and Spanish, Navarrete previously worked as reporter, producer and fill-in anchor for Telemundo Wisconsin and CBS 58 in Milwaukee.  She has also served as a reporter with SoiTV and with Radio Cosmos-Universidad Autonoma de Mexico based in Chicago. 

Born to as family of immigrants from Mexico, Navarrete is a first-generation American citizen. A native of the Brighton Park section of Chicago, Navarrete earned a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University where she majored in Communications Studies with a Latino Media & Communication Concentration.  She also studied in Madrid at Universidad Complutense for a semester. 

Navarrete advocates for the education of young people. She is also part of the organization that annually raises funds in student scholarships for young Hispanics at the high school she attended.
